Now, after buying your chosen unit, the next very important question is “What should I do next?”

I’m sure all motorcycle riders are excited before, during and right after buying our first motorcycle! Walang duda, matagal yang pinag-isipan. Marami rin yung tulad ko, matagal ring pinag-ipunan.

Simplehan lang natin. Eto na nga ang sagot sa mga katanungan mo:

Read the manual

Sino ba ang nagbabasa ng manual? We must!

Check the specs, the timing of maintenance like:

  • Engine oil
  • Coolant
  • Spark plug
  • Gear oil
  • Brake fluids
  • Brake pads
  • Brake shoe

Some of the terms might still be unfamiliar to new riders. Don’t worry, the internet gives easy access to the information needed. YouTube vloggers and social media groups helped me when I was just new in the motorcycle community.

Also, feel free to browse the blogs here that aim to answer the questions of the newbies.

Plan your next change oil

Oil change varies — nakadepende ang oil change timing sa engine displacement, saka sa brand and model ng motor mo. Commonly you need to change your engine oil on the first 500km or 3 months after you buy your motorcycle.

The reason for this is upon break-in period, yung debris ng gears ay nahahalo sa langis, kaya need palitan agad on the first 500km.

Buy a good helmet

May bagong motor ka, so ano nga ba ang perfect na kacombo nyan? Nakaka-poging helmet!

Ideal na “good” helmet na yung bilhin for safety purposes. Yung ibang motorcycle dealers, may pafreebie silang half-faced helmet. Helmet pa din naman. Pero highly recommended na full-faced na.

Maraming mga sikat at reliable brands like HJC, MT, SEC, Evo at LS2. See our blog sa LS2 Helmets.

Upgrade motorcycle parts

Motorcycles right after you bought at CASA are not perfect. The most common upgrades that you might need are horn, mini-driving light (MDL), shock and storage (like mounting topbox).

When I owned a Fazzio, there were few problems that could be solved by upgrading such as cute na busina, matagtag na shock at mahinang ilaw. Those were solved by buying aftermarket parts.

Know the LTO rule

Review the rules of LTO. Know by heart what is allowed and not allowed in motorcycles para hindi maging Kamote like overspeeding, overloading, beating the red light, etc.

For more info, see our blog about sa common violations.

Buy safety gears aside from a helmet

According to Philippine law...

According to Philippine law, helmets and closed shoes are required to be worn when riding. So ibig sabihin, pwede bang magshorts? Di naman bawal pero para safe, best pa din nakajeans o makapal na bottom.

Investing in special protective gear like motorcycle jackets, padded pants and gloves are highly encouraged.

Take it slowly!

Feel your motorcycle at first

Feel the weight, feel the handling, use the features, feel the braking power and listen to the sound when you throttle.

The first thousand kilometer should be like the familiarization of your motorcycle. You don't want to run at 80km/h right away after it has been released from CASA 'cause you don't know the limit of its braking power yet.

You gain it through experience of riding that motorcycle. Ingat parin baka masyadong maging kampante at maging kamote.
